TEENS 30-Hour Classroom & 8-Hour Behind-the-Wheel - Morgan City
This driver education course is for those applicants 14 years and 9 months to 17 years of age and includes:
- Get your TIP card from the Louisiana Department of Motor Vehicles. (This is needed before you start the classroom portion.
- Check out our website and pick a class date.
- Secure your spot by paying a $50 deposit (this is subtracted from your balance).
- Complete and pass our 38 hour course. (Students will receive a defensive driving certificate, a $50 value to give to your insurance company.)
- Get you Leaner's Permit from the Louisiana Department of Motor Vehicles. (Trade in your TIP card for your Leaner's Permit.)
- Hold Learner's Permit for 180 days or your 17th birthday, which ever one comes first. (Parents, practice with your child. 50 hours of driving including, 10 hours of night driving.)
- Road Skills Test!! (not included in the driver's ed course.)
- Time to get your license the Louisiana Department of Motor Vehicles. (Trade in your Learner's Permit for your license.)
Once classroom is completed and DMV/OMV test is passed, you will complete 8 hours of behind the wheel instruction:
The 8 hours are separated into four separate days in 2-hour sessions, with a well-formulated curriculum:
- 1st day: Pre-vehicle inspection, maintenance, basic vehicle operation, Right turns, left turns, approaching stop signs and stop lights, maintaining lane position, pedal control.
- 2nd day: Pre-vehicle inspection, highway driving, following distance, road scanning, watching other vehicles on the road, maintaining speed, lane changes & looking over our shoulder, reversing, driveway turnarounds, U-turns, 3-point turns, etc., review of the first day, etc.
- 3rd day: City defensive driving, reading signs, scanning the road, straight in parking, parallel parking (in our private parking lot), review of the second day, etc.
- 4th day: Interstate/Highway driving, acceleration/deceleration lanes, overall defensive driving (making sure they are always scanning the road), review of day third day, final evaluation
At the end, you will be given an assessment. After you pass the assessment, you will receive a certified Certificate of Completion; this will qualify you to get a permit. If student is 17 years of age and would like to skip the permit stage and go directly to a driver's license, you will need to complete a road skills test, which is also given at Fast Track Driving Academy. All road skills tests costs $40. This is NOT included in the driver's education cost of $375 and must be paid AFTER 8 hours behind the wheel are completed and assessment is passed.

If you are paying by check, please include the student's name in your correspondence when sending payment and allow 3-5 business days for mailing time. You may also print the ledger and send it with your payment to help us log your check payment to the proper student account.
Extra copy of the LA Class E Driving Manual: Purchase for $12 at the parent/guardian information session. You may also download the manual for free at www.expresslane.org to print out.
